I spotted ‘Air Warden on the telly a couple of years back….I’m pretty sure it was Monty who was waxing lyrical about it. We don’t harvest our own sweet pea seeds but we use an utterly wonderful grower here in the UK. The sweet pea seeds from her farm are the best quality that are available…and this year she grew some ‘Air Warden’….so we have snaffled a few handfuls.
“Lathyrus odoratus ‘Air Warden’ is an old-fashioned Spencer variety, bearing frilled, bright scarlet blooms with a good fragrance. It’s a great choice for the garden and cutting for home use.” Gardener’s World Magazine.
‘Air Warden’ was introduced in 1942 as a boost to the….you guessed it…air wardens.
