What a fine and beautiful morning to start the year’s digging. There’s a heap load of digging to done by the Higgledy Army in order to get our bed prep done by the Spring but what great work it is. {Yes…this novelty will wear off soon enough} The sun was shining, the birds were singing and all was well with the Cambridgeshire world.
I was wondering to myself as I dug a particularly exposed part of the garden, whether I could grow a sunflower windbreak…simply get a bag of ordinary sunflower seed, used as bird seed which cost next to nothing and sow them fairly close together so they grow no more than four feet high, in a belt of a couple of feet wide. Has anyone tried this? We could use some as cut flowers and just leave the rest to feed the birds next winter.
Remembered its a good idea to bring plenty of sandwiches and tea when digging or after a couple of hours you start chewing on dug up roots.
Anyone ventured out to the garden yet this year?
