Bundle: Hardy Annuals To Sow In Late Summer/Early Autumn.
It’s that wonderful time of year again when lad or lass can ponder the delights of what is known as autumn sowing. At Higgledy we tend to sow outside towards the end of August and into pots in the greenhouse in early September but there are no hard and fast rules in this game.
The plan is that seeds will germinate and produce a small amount of green growth over winter, while the root system continues to slowly grow. When spring arrives this root system is ready for action and will very quickly push up strong big plants…much earlier (and bigger) than spring sown plants. This really extends the season of your cutting patch.
Here are the Higgledy top 16 hardy annuals to be sowing this autumn.
We have knocked off 25% off the price and we will not charge any shipping costs. :)
Here’s the list of the little darlings:
Calendula ‘Art Shades’
Eschscholzia ‘Orange King’
Eschscholzia ‘Ivory Castle’
Gypsophila ‘Covent Garden’
Cornflower ‘Blue Ball’
Cornflower ‘Purple Haze’
Nigella ‘Persian Jewels’
Malope trifida Vulcan
Larkspur ‘Hyacinth Mix’
Borage (Phacelia and Borage not only make delightful cut flowers but the bees go crazy for them.)
Please note….there are overlaps with the hardy annual bundle that was available earlier in the year. :)
Growing guides are available on the blog. As soon as I sow mine I will add another blog post and show you my higgledy method…we can ‘grow along’ together. :) This will probably be Saturday 28th August…in sunny Suffolk.
