Cleome Spinosa ‘Violet Queen’

Cleome ‘Violet Queen’ is a tall, striking annual with spidery, violet-purple flowers that bloom in airy clusters atop strong, branching stems. Sometimes called spider flower, its unique shape and bold colour make it a real showstopper in the summer border—great for adding height, drama, and a touch of the exotic.

The flowers bloom over a long season, from midsummer to the first frost, and are a magnet for bees and butterflies. Though it looks delicate, Cleome is tough and thrives in hot, sunny conditions once established.

Sow seeds indoors from February to April using bottom heat, as germination can be a little slow. Harden off and plant out after the last frost. Cleome prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Space plants 30–40cm apart and handle seedlings carefully, as they dislike root disturbance.
