Cleome ‘White Queen’ is a statuesque annual with an exotic flair. Its spidery white blooms rise above palmate, slightly spiny foliage, creating a dramatic, airy effect in the border. Each flower cluster looks like a firework frozen mid-burst—elegant, architectural, and just a little wild.
This half-hardy annual loves the sun and will flower from mid-summer right through to the first frosts. It’s particularly good at adding height and structure to beds, and makes a striking cut flower too. Bees and other pollinators are frequent visitors.
Sow indoors from February to April, I sow mine on the surface. Transplant carefully and plant out after the last frost. Cleome prefers well-drained soil and full sun. Space plants 30–40cm apart to give them room to shine.
