Orlaya grandiflora is one of those flowers that looks wonderfully delicate but is actually remarkably easy-going. Its crisp white, lacy flower heads have a slightly wild, meadowy feel, with larger outer petals giving each bloom a beautifully intricate appearance.
It’s a fabulous plant for weaving through an informal border and is equally useful in the cutting patch, where the flowers bring a light, airy quality to arrangements without looking too fussy. The plants are neat and branching, flowering generously through early summer and attracting plenty of pollinating insects along the way.
Orlaya looks particularly lovely grown alongside blue cornflowers or a Larkspur mix.. Sow it in autumn for earlier flowers the following year, or sow in spring for a summer display.
NB My packs have about 40 seeds in them. Most seed companies sell them in packs of 25. You’re welcome! ;)
